McKinlee {A Shutters Senior Session}

Ms. McKinlee and I thought we might run into weather issues for her session, having stormed all night and with dark clouds still looming above us on the drive to our first location. However, by the time we reached our destination the sun was shining and we were set for a day of laughing… sometimes at each other instead of with each other. From broken dress zippers to changing behind a church – yes, it was in session, to illegal parking and scaling walls to hop into waterfalls, this session was an adventure we will be smiling about for a while. Congratulations on your senior year sweetie!

Colt {Shutters’ Baby Portaits}

With perfect features, big eyes and a great laid back attitude, this little tot – featured 12 months ago on the Shutters’ Blog as a fresh arrival into the world – is destined to be a model. I told that to his mom, then drove it in throughout the shoot. With the sun shining and a perfect weeping willow for a background, this shoot went without a hitch right up until little Colt told us he’d had enough and plopped down on dad’s foot with a cracker and a grin (he knew we were going to give him anything he wanted)…. I can’t wait to continue watching this little stud grow!

Sondra {a Shutters Senior Session}

The storms of last weekend might have caused a bit of a disturbance to head to our farms scenes for the beautiful Miss Sondra’s senior session, but that didn’t stop us from getting started… we just shot it half and half! Between the two days, one in town and one on their family farm, the images turned out nearly as stunning as this senior herself. Congrats on your senior year Sondra!

Canon {a Shutters Senior Session}

Any session featuring a senior who can come up and start a session off with “hey, I sure like your choice of equipment” (as yes, I shoot with Canon cameras), is sure to be one for the books and my session with this soon to be grad didn’t disappoint. From trying to pick the locks of silo bins in the middle of Archie – trust me, the farmers had nothing to worry about – to braving the stick-tight weeds in the Amarugiaes, Canon was as fast on the draw with his wit as he was with answering his cell phone.

Here’s to a great senior year for you Mr. Canon!

Rai and Josh {A Shutters Wedding}

Fact: There has never been a more relaxed, yet beautiful, wedding as Rai and Josh’s. Tying the knot on June 11th, this wedding featured a 20 minute ‘prep’ time for getting ready, a 12 minute ceremony and a 30 minute photo session period. In, out… and WED! It was the most low key and down to earth nuptials I’ve had the honor of watching or shooting, and for a bride whose personality is just as relaxed, it was perfect! After taking away a few key plays from this wedding for my own, I went to work editing the images for this couple while they enjoyed a honeymoon on the beaches of Southern Florida.

Congratulations Mr and Mrs Allen! May your lives be as simple and beautiful as your wedding!

Kolton {Shutters’ Newborn Portaits}

This handsome little bundle might be one of the most aware 10 day olds I have yet to shoot – or meet for that matter. That by no means should be taken as he was difficult, as this guy was as calm as can be. I think that is a good sign for his mama, an avid photographer herself, for capturing memories in the years to come. With this adorable face, I’d say it is safe to say that this little guy will be breaking hearts whether he turns ornery or not!

The Coopers {a Shutters Wedding Story}

Since I’m on a mission to catch up on my blogging today, I wanted to share with you yest another wedding story close to my heard. Though these pictures have been posted on Facebook for a while, I wanted to give them their rightful spot on the blog as well… so we are going back in time to June 4th. The sun is high. The location is beautifully placed on the edges of the Blue Springs Golf Club, and the bride and groom are ready and excited. You can’t ask for a much better setting for a photographer. To top it however, the bride and groom are long-time friends, and I’m surrounded by loved ones. The day was beautiful and the night was even better…. Congratulations Erin and Matt!

The Burnetts {a Shutters Wedding Story}

June 17th, 2011: The heat is unbearable, and worse, Missouri residents are being told that we have weeks left of this 100 degree plus temperature left to tolerate. Still, at 9pm, the weather is so hot I can’t roll down the windows on the short drive over to Pleasant Hill. Regardless, it is wedding season and true love can’t predict the temps months in advance, so I head on over to meet up with Laura, Hillary and Nathalie for a night-before-the-wedding sleep over. That’s right, the photographer does sleepovers in this case. See, this is no ordinary wedding; this is the wedding of my little sister’s best friend, who is – for all emotional purposes – my own little sister herself. I walk in to a room full of flower disaster. Seriously, disaster….

The night didn’t get much less disastrous as high winds and rains roll in during the middle of the night and have everyone in the house on edge and ready to bolt for the bathtubs (being a week after the devastating Joplin tornado, you can’t really blame us). The next morning however, we woke to a beautiful day. Regardless of the heat, the sky is blue, the clouds are fluffy, the bride is radiant enough to cause me to tear up on numerous occasions and the bridesmaids couldn’t have been prettier. Here is some proof!

Tensley {a Shutters newborn story}

Little Miss Tensley, at less than a week old, was a perfect little model for this Shutters’ newborn shoot. Though we couldn’t get her to sleep, and though she might be the most active newborn I’ve ever met, not a cry was broke as we shot away with this little one. With some improvising on posing, as this little one was certainly able to already move around her head and wiggle out of each pose we placed her in, we were on a roll – and I’m thrilled with what we captured. With a huge congratulations to mom and dad – Jessica and Zach – allow me to post some of my favorite images.

Kyle and Kortney {an Shutters’ engagement story}

To say I am relaxed around this next couple is an understatement. I’ve now known this cute pairing for about 4 years now, as this handsome groom to be happens to be a sibling of one of our good friends. Adorable, tall and smitten for each other, I couldn’t enjoy our session more – unless it hadn’t been so darn muggy that is. All in all, the clouds turned out shoot into a perfectly lighted session, and this couple’s silliness together was the perfect remedy to a start of a bit of a gloomy day here in Kansas City. I can’t wait until their August wedding!! Needless to say, there will be more images to come soon!
